Manor Place Terrace (161–179 Manor Place SE17)-Demolition Threat Continues

UPDATE 5th July.

Apart from tomorrow the key date in the diary is the Cabinet meeting on July 17th which we think starts at 4pm at Southwark Council Offices in Tooley St where the fate of the terrace will be effectively decided. We are being allowed to take a deputation and we really really need loads of support in person. Please put this time and date in your diary if you can.
1. Day of Action - Friday 6th July
Runs nominally from 7am to 7pm outside 161-179 Manor Place SE17. Do come along for as much time as you can spare. Any queries contact number throughout Friday is 07931-389746.
Two key times – Around 12 noon photographer from South London Press. We understand that around 4pm the Leader of Southwark Council Councillor Peter John and the Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Community Safety Councillor Richard Livingstone plan to drop round to talk about the development. Please be there then if you can at either of these times.
We will try and do the following:
1. Talk to people as they go to work and come home and go past throughout the day.
2. Get petition signatures from people who pass.
3. Deliver leaflets and get petition signatures from homes in the local area.
4. Have a space where people can write about their memories of the terrace when it was a hub for the local area.
5. Have a space where people can write/sketch about how they would like the terrace to be redeveloped/look.
Does anybody have any photos of the terrace in better times – Southwark News would like to use some photos in a feature on its history.
NB The weather forecast is rubbish so we will try to get hold of a gazebo/similar to stay a bit dry!
2. The week so far.
Monday – Great reception for our campaign at the Borough Bankside and Walworth Community Council meeting from well over 100 local people and local area Councillors.
Tuesday – Meeting of the Walworth Society – great turnout and planning for Friday.
Wednesday – Deputation to Southwark’s Full Council meeting. Once again we were given a very fair hearing from Councillors with supportive questions and comments.
Thursday - Great support again in this week’s Southwark News with another editorial and feature on page 6.
We now have more than 300 online petition signatures and are aiming for 1,000+ by the Cabinet meeting on July 17th. Below is the text of the deputation which we made to the Full Council
