4. Boundary Commission for England (BCE) - What Parliamentary Constituency will Walworth be in?
The BCE is currently working on the constituencies for England for 2020 onwards. There have been suggestions that Walworth could be divided into three constituencies (from the current two). We have made representations that that would not be good for our area and, if of interest, these can be seen in the file below.

6. New Southwark Plan – Site Allocations & Area Visions.
Please find below the comments that the WS submitted following our discussion of the proposed site allocations and area visions for Walworth and the E&C at the last meeting.

7. Elephant Park - Exhibition of Next Phase.

Lendlease will be having a stall from 6:30pm at the start of the next meeting to talk about MP3, the next phase of Elephant Park.  This phase includes two plots between New Kent Road and the new Park, H4 and H5.
H4 has been recently submitted for planning approval and Lendlease will be able to answer questions related to the application.  Plot H5 is currently under designed development and Lendlease would like to hear thoughts on the emerging proposals.

 8. Protecting Southwark's Pubs.

We have mentioned before that Southwark Council is proposing to give greater protection to Southwark's pubs through an Article 4 direction which removes permitted development rights for the change of use, demolition or alteration of pubs and requires planning permission for any proposed changes to the pubs that are identified in the Article 4 Directions.

If you would like to comment on this proposal (we have said that we are really supportive), that can be done at the consultation page:

or by emailing:

Any comments need to be in by 27th April.

Walworth Town Hall Survey

The Walworth Town Hall building was badly damaged in a fire in 2013 and the damage caused meant that the Newington Library could also no longer be used. For the last four years the library has had a temporary home at The Artworks at the Elephant and Southwark Council has maintained the Town Hall in a condition that can allow it to be brought back into use in due course.

In 2015, plans were created for the comprehensive redevelopment of the two buildings (bit.ly/2kjjl0p). The Council has now paused these plans as they are costed at around £40 million, almost £20 million more than they had originally budgeted.

As it is not clear how Southwark Council are going to fund this amount, it has decided to bring the Newington Library building (which was largely undamaged in the fire) back into temporary/meanwhile use for a minimum of 2 years while it considers how best to proceed with the badly damaged Town Hall building.

The Walworth Society and local Councillors feel that we now need to find out more about what people think about the services that the Walworth area needs, how they value the Town Hall building and what should happen to it. To find this out we have created a short survey for people to fill in.
It should not take more than a couple of minutes to complete and can be found at:

The survey is completely confidential. We will feedback your responses and the findings through Spring and Summer 2017 via Walworth Society meetings and our regular mailings. Please note that the questions do not represent our views. We are just trying to find out what people think!

Many thanks for completing the survey.
