4. WeWalworth Barbeque.
News from the WeWalworth project.
The WeWalworth team invites you to our upcoming Neighbourhood BBQ on Saturday 24th September. We’ve already hosted a Neighbourhood BBQ [1] and had more than 100 conversations with local people – and we’re hoping to do that again this month, in order to move closer to a solution for the community.
If you’ve come to one of our events before and want to join again, it would be great if you could bring a friend or colleague along! To register click here, For more information go to coda.io/@we-walworth/project.
As you know, the BBQ area in Burgess Park was enormously popular before Covid, but the area is now fenced off after complaints about anti-social behaviour and safety concerns. Local people fear that the decision has already been made to keep the area closed for good. By bringing people from both sides of the argument together, by working together as a group of residents, practitioners and professionals, including representatives of local and national government – could the BBQs be the issue to unite a neighbourhood? We’re looking for people to join the conversation and take action.
So, join us for a Neighbourhood Welcome starting with a barbecue lunch. You’ll learn more about this project, get some training and together we’ll go out and start speaking to our neighbours.
WHEN: 3-7pm on Saturday 24 September
WHERE: Walworth Living Room, Surrey Square, London SE17 2JU
Childcare will be available if required.
Together we’ll explore and learn about:
- Techniques to engage with people we don’t yet know
- Identifying great ideas and leaders in our community
- Why do we want to organise around connections and networks.
This is our second Neighbourhood Welcome on BBQs. Over the summer we’ve been recruiting a small team to work on the barbecue challenge together over the coming weeks and months and there will still be space to join that group in September.
