Thanks to everyone who came along to our Local List “Drop In” Workshop on the 19th November. We have now got a great set of local buildings and landmarks highlighted for the Walworth area.
There are only a couple of days to go – the consultation closes on 30th November – but we would love to get some more support for all the brilliant nominations that people have put so much effort into uploading on to the Southwark Council consultation website.
Here (in this pdf) is a list of all the buildings that we have nominated in the last few weeks and if you have any time to support these or others in Walworth that would be great. It should be noted that many of the buildings being nominated for the Local List (in Walworth and across Southwark) already have some form of protection whether it is from national listing by Historic England or because they sit within one of the 53 Conservation Areas in Southwark.
A selection of some gems from around Walworth are shown below. None of the buildings in this image are listed or lie in Conservation Areas so without the Local List they will have no protection from development.
Buildings that we would particularly like to see support for Local Listing include:
- The Beehive PH on Carter St (information about the building on page 7 of the pdf)
- 82-96 Walworth Road (opposite the proposed Lendlease H1 development) (page 11 of the pdf)
- East Street Baptist Church (page 27)
- St John’s School (page 27) and Victory Primary School (page 3)
- Army Reserve Centre on Braganza St (pages 12 and 13)
To support nominations, log into the Commonplace website (this takes a couple of minutes)
https://southwarkdraftlocallist.commonplace.is/
and go to the Southwark Central sectionand then please press the button to agree with the nominations for some of the buildings.
Thanks so much!
