2. Animated Tour Of The Elephant & Castle. A free animated tour brought to you by the Castle Square team with actors and a tour guide who tell the story of the architecture and design of the Elephant and Castle. It will see an animated tour based on key buildings, monuments and statues which narrate the changing face of the area. Highlighting the varied waves of migration such as the Jewish community at the start of the 19th century, or the Italian community who made East Street their home. The free tour will highlight buildings such as Metro City Heights which was designed by Hungarian-born modernist architect Erno Goldfinger and constructed in the early 1960s. Or how the Latin community has made Maldonado Walk its home and thus influenced the Elephant streetscape and design of the area. Making Connection: Songs Of Peckham’s Past – FREE Friday 20th October Peckham Palace of Varieties: Songs of Peckham’s Past Date: 20th October 7.30pm – 9pm Place: The Old Waiting Room, Peckham Rye Station (accessed through the stairs on the forecourt) Cost: Free News from Peckham. Peckham’s Palace of Varieties is a free night of live music celebrating Peckham’s music hall past. From the ‘Peckham Prowl’ to the ‘Exhausted Swell’, Peckham’s rich history of music hall and variety songs will be explored. Hosted by the Peckham Society, with live music from Tyrone Landau and talented singers, we’ll sing our way through Peckham’s colourful songs, hear a little bit of history and raise a glass or two to the Old Waiting Room and its future! ![]() Join us in the beautiful Old Waiting Room to learn a few songs, meet a few new neighbours and hear a little about Peckham’s little known performing past. We were pleased to read the City Airport Consortium Statement prepared by Cllr Louise Krupski, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Action – Lewisham Council and signed by Cabinet Members from six other London boroughs showing the sort of cross-borough cooperation that PHASE has long campaigned for. We are particularly pleased to see Southwark (Cllr James McAsh) and Greenwich signing alongside Lewisham.
