| 2. St Peter’s Church 200th Anniversary Appeal – Latest News If you can, please support the St Peter’s Church 200th Anniversary building appeal. Father Andrew, Rector of St Peter’s says the project will “restore and improve our building and access to St Peter’s heritage in every sense”. As part St Peter’s application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the church has set up the St Peter’s 200 Club which asks people to pledge £3.17 a week for one year towards the restoration appeal. | 4. The Buster Keaton Society Present: The Doughboy – Saturday 18th January. The Quarterly meeting of the UK Buster Keaton Society, dedicated to the appreciation of the silent comedian. The meeting runs from 4pm to 7pm at the Cinema Museum, 2 Dugard Way (off Renfrew Road), SE11 4TH UK. After a selection of Keaton shorts and a break, the second half will be a screening of Doughboys (1930). Keaton’s second talkie, which he considered the best film he made for MGM. Keaton drew on his own army experiences in WW1 for the film. Rich man Elmer (Buster) is in love with working girl Mary (Sally Eilers), but she ignores him. An accident lands him in the army. Elmer learns that Mary is on the base to entertain the troops, but she has caught the eye of his drill sergeant.
