The current 5-year listing runs out in October 2025 and we are keen to get our application in for a further 5-year listing well in advance of this date. Below is a link to a survey form that we are using. Please do pop in your thoughts and we will make a submission asap. Many thanks for all your help.

4. Town Centre Action Plan for the Walworth Road.

Southwark Council has just published a draft of its Town Centre Action Plan that will cover the Walworth Road area. Called the Elephant & Castle & Walworth Town Centre Action Plan it covers a number of short, medium and long term actions that aim to make the Walworth Road a safer and more attractive place to shop and spend time.

We are hoping to give over a future society meeting to a discussion of the plan with officers and members and will let you know details of that as soon as we can.

6. Kennington Noir Presents The Cry Of The City (1948) – Wednesday 12th March.

Cry of the City (1948), directed by Robert Siodmak, starring Victor Mature, Richard
Conte, Fred Clark and Shelley Winters.

Another noir from 20th Century Fox studios, this time from one of the masters of the genre, Robert Siodmak. Martin Rome (Conte) and Vittorio Candella (Mature) were childhood friends, but have drifted apart. Candella is now a detective lieutenant, whereas Rome has become a hardened criminal. They meet again when Candella and his colleague Collins (Clark), interview him in hospital, where he is recovering from bullet wound sustained in a police shootout, about a jewel robbery and murder.

Like many noirs of the time, part of the film was shot on location in New York City, and was well received critically, but Siodmak later commented: “I thought it was good but it’s not really my kind of film: I hate locations – there’s so much you can’t control”.

TICKETS & PRICING: Everyone welcome: Individual tickets at £8.00 can be purchased on the door or via TickeLab. Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start. Refreshments will be available in the licensed cafe/bar.
