3. The story of the Walworth Community Garden Network – Thurs 4th September (6-7:30pm)

News from the Walworth Community Garden Network

Join us online next week Thursday 4th September (6-7:30pm) to celebrate and reflect on the story of the Walworth Community Garden Network (WCGN)🌳

Formed in 2017, the WCGN was made up of local gardens and growers within Walworth, South London. The network transitioned into a structured, funded organisation in 2019, eventually scaling back to an informal network that thrived on strong relationships, practical knowledge-sharing and occasional events.

Back in May 2025, we gathered in person to share a publication on “The Story of the Walworth Community Garden Network”. Led by community researcher Enke Huang, and commissioned by Pembroke House, the report weaves a multilayered narrative of the local garden network and its journey over the past 8 years.

On Thursday there will be another opportunity to gather and learn about the network’s journey. We’ll be sharing the highs and lows, the plants and the people. Join us by signing up with link below!

4. Pasley Park Festival Saturday 6th September – 12pm to 5pm.

Music, arts, crafts, dog show and much more at the Pasley Park Festival Saturday 6th September, Pasley Park (Chapter Rd/Manor Place SE17).

1. News of the event

Sat 6th Sept (12-5pm) will see the whole of the ‘Pasley Park’ transformed with a FREE community festival fete for all the family.

Our Pasley Park is a little park with a big history. Sited between Kennington and Walworth Road, it provides the local community with a centre where people can come and relax, sit on the benches, play games, walk under its beautiful trees, or admire its plants.  It began life as the Royal Surrey Zoological Gardens, one of the first zoos in London, where some 170 animal species attracted 8,000 visitors a day.  Now two stone ostriches remind people of some of these exotic animals.  The Gardens were eventually built over, but a park was created within the housing developments.  Some years ago, the park was awarded a Green Flag for excellence, with the pole decorated in giraffe colours to reflect the first place in the UK to show these animals.

On 6 Sep, our FREE community fete opens at 12.00 and runs until 5 pm and will include many exciting elements:
●        The famous dog show at 1:15-2:15 pm. (Registration 12-1 pm)
●        Music, and dance.
●        Free activities for the kids, including face painting
●        Foods of the World.
●        Market Zone.
●        Arts and Crafts.
●        DJ.
●        Art workshops

This year we have themed the event around Sergeant Stubbs VC, whose memorial is located in the park.
