6. St Peter’s Church, Liverpool Grove – Appeal and Christmas Services

News from St Peter’s Church

St Peter’s Church: 200 years of Christmas in Walworth!

St Peter’s are currently celebrating our 200th anniversary year, as many of you will know! And we would love to invite everyone to celebrate Christmas in the beauty of Sir John Soane’s Grade 1 listed church (one of only four Grade 1 listed buildings in the whole of Southwark!): everyone is welcome, all ages, and whether you’ve been to St Peter’s before or not!

We are also in fundraising mode, and if you would like to support our Christmas Gift Appeal to help St Peter’s cover some large and essential maintenance costs to keep the lights on and the building safe, please click here, or search ‘Parish Giving Scheme St Peter’s, Walworth’ to make a donation via the Church of England’s free giving service, which includes automatic Gift Aid. We’re currently facing £12,060 in large costs from the gas bill to our 5-yearly electrical inspection of the whole church – so far as a congregation we have given gifts totalling an amazing £1,231 in one week! Your one-off or regular donation will really help us to look after St Peter’s, while we wait to begin the work supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2027: thank you so much!

Happy Christmas, and a wonderful 2026 to everyone! Father Andrew, Rector of St Peter’s, Walworth

10. Kennington Bioscope Presents The Suspect (1944). Kennington Noir presents The Suspect (1944). Wed 14 Jan 2026 @ 19:30 pm.

The Suspect (1944), directed by Robert Siodmak, with Charles Laughton, Ella Raines and Dean Harens. Laughton plays Philip Marshall, a kindly manager, living in London at the beginning of the last century with his shrewish wife. When he makes friends with a young female stenographer, he sums up the courage to ask his wife for a divorce, but she refuses and instead threatens a scandal. When she dies after a mysterious fall, suspicion falls on Marshall.

This is an early film noir from the great Robert Siodmak, who was very much the master of the genre in the 1940s and 1950s. He found ways of dealing with the notoriously difficult Laughton during the shoot, and the resulting film was well received by critics on its release.

Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start. Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.

TICKETS & PRICING: Tickets £8. Advance tickets may be purchased from Ticketlab, or direct from the Cinema Museum by calling 020 7840 2200 in office hours.
