3.  Southwark Pensioners Action Group Manifesto For May 2026 Elections.

Southwark Pensioners’ Action Group (SPAG) has issued a manifesto for the May election along with the following statement issued to all candidates for election:

“SPAG still feels that the needs of older people are not being given sufficient priority. There was no reference to older people – over 55s – in the Council’s 2030 document – although there has been a Cabinet report and some progress on Age Friendly work, it has been slow.

Instead of organising a hustings SPAG is circulating this document to as many candidates in the coming Council elections to be held in May 2026 as we could contact.

Candidates are urged to review these pledges – with particular focus on the rights and safety of older residents – and formally declare to SPAG whether they will champion these pledges if elected to Southwark Council”.

The pledges concern the following issues:  Equality: Cost of Living; Housing Emergency; Planning; Social and home care; Health; Mental Health; Transport; Climate Emergency; Safety and Security; Consultation and Transparency. To see the full manifesto click here.

SPAG are happy for others to use and adapt the text to engage with candidates. For more information on SPAG go to southwarkpensioners.org.uk or email info@southwarkpensioners.org.uk.

6. Funding for Green Building Upgrades or Energy Workshops – Southwark Council Community Energy Fund Round 3

News from Southwark Council of support for community groups that would like to invest in energy savings or renewables projects.

Do you have a project that can reduce carbon emissions or tackle fuel poverty, but needs some funding to help make it a reality?

After the success of the first and second round of Southwark Community Energy Fund (SCEF), Southwark Council have now opened a third round of funding, with £400,000 available to grant to local energy projects.

This fund gives grants to faith groups, community groups, non-profits, charity groups and local schools for green energy projects. These projects will reduce carbon emissions or save energy. This could be through building upgrades or green technology like solar panels or heat pumps. It could also be for workshops or training to help tackle fuel poverty and build capacity. The fund is intended for community buildings and is not available for private residential properties.

The council is also launching a ‘Call for Ideas’ on early concept proposals or partnership opportunities for the council, that could help deliver carbon savings and community benefits.

The application window is now open and will close on 24 April 2026
