2. Covid Civic Awards.
A message from the Southwark Mayor’s office: ‘With Southwark Civic Award for Courage During the COVID-19 Crisis scheme, the key words are ‘active citizenship’ and ‘exceptional achievement’. We want to hear of individuals, projects, organisations and businesses worthy of being singled out and publicly recognised for their generous use of time, ideas, energy and resources for the betterment of others during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We are also looking for shining examples of civic mindedness, personal courage, or service to family or community that is above and beyond the ordinary. We want the recipients of these awards to know that the difference they have made to the lives of others, or indeed the life of the borough, is recognised at the highest level. Examples may include, but are not restricted to:
- Outstanding personal service to the community.
- A community organisation or individual that has improved the lives of many.
- A project or event that has helped to improve cultural links with communities to ensure support for everyone during the pandemic.
- An act of personal courage, bravery or generosity.
- Bringing people together to organise support for vulnerable residents in Southwark.’
Awards will be presented at a civic celebration at Southwark Cathedral. Online nominations can be submitted: www.southwark.gov.uk/civicawards. COVID Awards enquiry line on 020 7525 7303 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Closing date for receipt of nominations is Friday 16 July 2021. Copy of nomination form click here.
3. Our Healthy Walworth – Streetspace Review: Registration launch
News from Southwark Council
“Southwark is committed to making the borough cleaner, safer and greener for all. To help accomplish this, some adaptations to local Walworth roads were put in place to encourage active travel around the area. These were introduced in 2020 as experimental traffic management orders (ETMOs) and, as these were experimental measures, Southwark will begin an eight-week consultation with the Walworth community in July 2021 to gather local people’s views on them. We are asking the Walworth community to get involved and have your say.
Newsletters will be arriving on doorsteps of Walworth residents detailing how you can get involved in the consultation process and we encourage you to register your interest in taking part.”
You can register your interest to take part in the consultation here:
