1. Walworth Society July meeting – 7pm Weds 15th July (in person only)

Our next general WS meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 15th July at the Crypt, St Peter’s Church Liverpool Grove, SE17 2HH. We apologise that there is no online link and that the meeting will be in person only.

2.  Party in the Park – 11am to 6pm Sat 18th July – Faraday Gardens

News from Father Andrew:


St Peter’s Party in the Park: Saturday 18th July in Faraday Gardens: 11am-6pm! Thanks to generous sponsorship from Southwark Council, St Peter’s are able to run Party in the Park again this year! Everyone is welcome and this year their will be a heritage consultation as part of St Peter’s ‘Building Beyond: Soane Reimagined’ project. Kassandrea and Father Andrew from St Peter’s are leading on planning, and they also have volunteer opportunities: from set up on the day from 8am through the day, and clear-up from 5.30pm.  If you’d like to get involved, please email office@stpeterswalworth.org

3. Community Events at Surrey Square Primary School

a.  SE17 Summer Jam: Community + Music Festival Mark your calendars for Saturday, 11th July 2026 (11am–2pm)! Hosted by SSQ and OKRFZ (see below) at Surrey Square Primary School, the SE17 Summer Jam is a completely free community and music festival designed to bring the neighbourhood together. Join us for a brilliant day out featuring live music, food and drink, face painting, fun games,  raffle prizes, a quiet zone, local organisations, petting zoo and much more!



b. The Old Kent Road Family Zone (OKRFZ) Marketplace Come along to the OKRFZ Marketplace, a free monthly community event where everyone is welcome! Running from 10am to 1pm on select Saturdays throughout the year, it provides a safe, fun space for neighbours to connect, access local services, engage in different activities like arts and crafts, multisports, fitness sessions and more. Visitors can also pick up free books, groceries, and preloved clothing in our Boutique. A hot, nutritious, healthy lunch is served for all at 12pm, and you can keep an eye on our website for exciting themed months. Remaining 2026 dates include July 11th, August 15th, September 26th, October 24th, November 28th and December 12th.

4. Walworth Living Room Extended Opening Hours

Walworth Living room are extending their opening hours: “With support from the GLA’s new Loved and Wanted Fund, starting Wednesday 8 July, we will now be open Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm every week.
 
To kick off our new opening hours we have some fun activities and workshops planned for the 8th including:
        * Tote-bag making
        * Poetry workshop
        * Weekly afternoon tea.

We are adjusting our hours on other days to keep them more consistent. Please see our new opening hours below.

We are also in the final stages of renovating our courtyard, and are looking forward to evening and weekend events this summer in our new outdoor space. Stay tuned for more information soon!

7. Cinema Museum French Sundaes Present: Bande à part (1964).

In this season of French Nouvelle Vague or New Wave, French Sundaes will be showing three excellent films from the very early days of this movement. All quite different but all very accessible and entertaining. These will be preceded by clips from a wide range of New Wave films.
 
On July 12th, Jean-Luc Godard’s comedy-dance-crime pastiche Bande à part (1964). “All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun”, according to Godard. Add some amazing dancing, a love triangle and criminals so inept you can’t help feeling sorry for them, and you get this classic early Godard.
 
About French Sundaes: French treasures from the Cinema Museum archives. Each film is accompanied by an introductory illustrated talk by Jon Davies, Tutor in French Cinema at Morley College.

Refreshments will be available in the licensed cafe/bar.
